Biodata

Bilhaṇa (11. Jh.) war ein Sanskrit-Dichter aus Kashmir, der in der zweiten Hälfte des 11. Jh. n. Chr. wirkte. Er ist Verfasser der Caurapañcāśikā und eines historischen Mahākāvya auf den Cālukya-König Vikramāditya VI. Tribhuvanamalla (1076 bis 1127) von Kalyāṇa, der sein Förderer war. Unter seinem Namen ist auch ein Drama Karṇasundarī überliefert, welches dem Cālukya Karṇadeva Trailokyamalla von Aṇhilvad (reg. 1064 bis 1094) gewidmet ist. Man findet den Namen Bilhaṇa zuweilen auch in abweichenden Schreibweisen wie z. B.: Bihlaṇa, Vilhaṇa, Vihlaṇa oder auch Behlaṇa (siehe Trivikramāṅkadevacarita ed. Bühler, S. 6).
